Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Music Practice Manager — what it does, how it works, pricing, and support.
What is Music Practice Manager?
Music Practice Manager is a macOS music practice app for organising your practice materials and turning them into structured, timed practice sessions. It helps you manage files, web links, notes, Playlists, metronome settings and workspace layouts from one place.
Can MPM be used as a practice planner for musicians?
Yes — MPM is designed to work as a practice planner for musicians. You build Playlists that act as structured practice plans, with a timed slot for each item, so you stay on track across a full session. As a music practice organiser, it brings together your files, web resources, metronome settings and workspace layouts in one place, so every session starts with a clear plan rather than scattered materials.
Does MPM include lessons or music content?
No. MPM does not provide lessons, songs, scores or backing tracks. It helps you organise and practise with your own materials, including files on your Mac and links to online resources you already use.
What types of material can I use with MPM?
You can add local files such as Guitar Pro files, PDFs, audio files, video files, backing tracks and documents. You can also add web links such as YouTube videos, online courses, reference pages and other browser-based resources.
Can I use MPM with Guitar Pro, Transcribe, PDFs and backing tracks?
Yes. MPM is designed for exactly this kind of mixed practice setup. You can organise different file types in the Library, group related materials into Collections, and add them to Playlists for structured practice sessions.
Is Music Practice Manager suitable for guitarists?
Yes. MPM works well as a guitar practice app. You can organise Guitar Pro files, PDFs, backing tracks, tablature resources and lesson videos in the Library, group related materials into Collections, and build timed practice routines from them. The built-in practice timer and metronome mean you can run structured timed music practice sessions without switching between multiple tools.
Can I add YouTube videos and online courses?
Yes. You can add web links to the Library and include them in Playlists. Web links open in your default browser, so you will need an internet connection to access online resources.
Can I use MPM with an online course that has multiple lessons?
Yes. Add the course as a URL item in your Library and give it a general course name. Add that item to your Playlists as normal. When you move to the next lesson, copy the new lesson URL, right-click the item name in the Practice Controller and choose Update URL. The new URL is applied everywhere that item is used, including the Library, Playlists and Collections.
What is the Practice Controller?
The Practice Controller is a small floating bar that stays above your workspace during a practice session. It gives you quick access to the timer, metronome, playlist navigation, notes and layout capture without returning to the main app window.
What are Snapshots?
Snapshots save the window layout for a practice item or collection. When you open that item again, MPM can reopen the associated files and restore the saved workspace layout automatically. Snapshots capture Practice Controller and window positions and sizes; they do not restore playback position, scroll position or internal state inside third-party apps.
Can I use MPM offline?
You can use MPM with local files when you are offline. Web links, online courses, licence checks, updates and billing-related features may require an internet connection.
Why does MPM need Accessibility permission?
Accessibility permission is needed only for window layout capture and restore. It allows MPM to read and set window positions on your Mac. Files and web links can still open without this permission, but automatic workspace restore will not be available.
Does MPM upload my files?
No. Your library database is stored on your Mac and your local files remain on your Mac. Web links open in your browser, and online resources such as YouTube videos or courses require an internet connection.
Will MPM work with every Mac app?
MPM is designed to work with normal macOS apps by opening files in their default applications. Workspace restore depends on how individual apps create and expose their windows. If a particular app, file type or layout does not behave as expected, please contact support.
Can I try MPM before buying?
Yes. MPM includes a 30-day free trial so you can test it with your own files, apps and practice routine before buying. No payment details are required to start the trial.
How much does MPM cost?
MPM is £9.99 as a one-off purchase — a perpetual licence with no recurring or subscription charge. No payment details are required to start the 30-day free trial.
Can I use MPM on more than one Mac?
Your licence supports use on up to two Macs. If you need to move your licence to another Mac, you can deactivate it on a device you no longer use and activate it on the new one.
What happens when the free trial ends?
The 30-day free trial requires no payment details and does not auto-charge. When it ends, the app stops working until you purchase a licence. There is no subscription to cancel.
How will updates be provided?
MPM checks for updates on startup and will notify you when a newer version is available.
Is it available on the Mac App Store?
No. MPM is not available on the Mac App Store. It is distributed directly and purchased through the website.
Which Mac do I need to run MPM?
MPM requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Macs are not supported in this release.
Is MPM available for Windows?
Not yet — the current release is macOS only and requires Apple Silicon. A Windows version is in active development and due shortly. Contact us to register your interest and be notified when it launches.
